Resources for the Journey
These are just some of the resources that I have used as I’ve grown in my journey over the last decade or so. There are some that I wish I had read at the beginning of my spiritual life, and I hope that many of these will be helpful for you.
Many of the resources are either free or very inexpensive. There is a lot of good stuff on here and can be a bit overwhelming. If you’re not sure where to begin, check out the Start Here page and that might give you some direction.
Some of these resources are affiliate links which means I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase. This does not increase the price for you at all. All of these resources are ones that I use personally and recommened highly. Only purchase these if you feel that they would be beneficial for your journey.
God’s Eternal Purpose
Finding Christ in the Old Testament, Vols. 1 & 2
Finding Christ in the New Testament
Below are blogs that have helped me think different about my walk with Christ and move beyond traditional religious structures and institutions into a more dynamic and engaging experience with both Christ and those who are following Him.
The blog of Wayne Jacobsen whose writings and podcast have helped me not only survive this journey at times (if you’ve been in the throes of this long enough, you’ll understand) but also enable me to thrive and reshape my understanding of my spiritual journey (while also staying very grounded in Truth).
Frank Viola’s writings really got me started on this journey and he still continues to publish new posts and books related to God’s Eternal Purpose and has helped me rethink a number of spiritual practices for the better.
Although Jon Zens doesn’t post every week, I enjoy his posts when they come out. I’ve read some of his books and he is very insightful and challenges my way of thinking.
If you’re ready to think differently (or are already) about the Church, your faith, and our relationships with the God-head and fellow believers, this is a great podcast. I have to admit that I wasn’t ready when I first became disillusioned with the Church to really get what these guys (Wayne and Brad) had to say. Thankfully, though, over the last couple of years, this has grown to be my favorite podcast to listen to (and many weeks, the only one).
This is a great podcast for those of you who want to dive deep and begin rethinking much of Christendom (Christ, the Church, God’s will, etc.) Frank does a good job of diving into Scripture and help the listener begin to reshape much of what is taught (and mis-taught) in many churches today. Unfortuanately, there are no new podcasts, but the older ones are definitely worth a listen.
